BYU Indigenous Initiatives Internal Communications Samples

Note: In the summer of 2021, I was working as the internship coordinator for BYU's American Indian Studies Program. The following are sample communications I wrote in preparation for student internships to commence that fall. These email samples demonstrate my ability to communicate between multiple entities within our program with clarity and tact, particularly within the context of a community still recovering from a global pandemic.

FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERS WE HAVE NOT YET PARTNERED WITH/CONTACTED

Hello,

My name is Quinn Blackley and I am the Internship Coordinator of the Indigenous Initiatives program at Brigham Young University. For the past two years, we have run this internship program using generous funding from BYU, which allows us to internally fund student interns as they work with Native American organizations and communities. Our goal is to utilize the skills of students and the institutional resources of BYU to support the amazing work that you’re already doing and provide students with meaningful professional experience.

More detailed information regarding Indigenous Initiatives (such as the types of projects students have worked on in the past, the process of project supervision, and highlights from community partners and interns) can be found at native.byu.edu/indigenous-initiatives. Your organization may also submit a project proposal directly on the website. If you are interested in working with students this fall semester, project proposals must be submitted by August 13th, 2021. If you know of other organizations that may be interested in a partnership, feel free to forward our information on to them.

We hope you will consider allowing one of our students to help forward the important initiatives of your organization.

Please contact me or our program’s manager [NAME] if you have any questions. You can reach him via email at [EMAIL] or at [PHONE NUMBER].

All best,

Quinn

FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERS WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH/CONTACTED IN THE PAST

Hello,

I hope you are doing well! Fall semester here at BYU is fast-approaching and we are excited to kick off the Indigenous Initiatives program once again. With things beginning to return back to normal following the COVID-19 pandemic, we are optimistic about the work our students will be able to accomplish as we continue to build relationships with you and your organization.

During this pandemic period, we have been developing a new feature that we hope will make the process of partnership more efficient. Organizations may now find detailed information regarding Indigenous Initiatives (such as the types of projects students have worked on in the past, the process of project supervision, and highlights from community partners and interns) on our new webpage, native.byu.edu/indigenous-initiatives. Your organization may also submit a project proposal directly on the website. If you are interested in working with students this fall semester, project proposals must be submitted by August 13th, 2021. If you know of other organizations who may be interested in a partnership, feel free to forward our information on to them.

We are grateful for the opportunity you have given past interns to work alongside you as you have forwarded the important initiatives of your organization. We hope you will consider partnering with us again this fall.

Please contact me or our program’s manager [NAME] if you have any questions. You can reach him via email at [EMAIL] or at [PHONE NUMBER].

All best,

Quinn
